Store your wines perfectly: our practical advice
Share
A good wine deserves to be stored in the best conditions. Whether you're a collector or a casual wine enthusiast, knowing how to store your wines properly makes all the difference. Improper storage can alter the aromas, texture, and even completely ruin the enjoyment. Here are some simple tips to keep your wines in optimal condition.
1. Temperature, a key factor
Wine doesn't like thermal shocks or extreme temperatures. The ideal? A stable temperature around 12°C. If you don't have a natural cellar, an electric wine cellar is an excellent solution. Avoid excessively hot locations (near an oven, a radiator, or a window in direct sunlight).
2. Store your bottles lying down
For corked wines, store them lying down. This allows the cork to remain in contact with the wine and prevent it from drying out. A dry cork allows air to pass through, which can prematurely oxidize the wine. For bottles with capsules, this is less critical, but horizontal storage is still recommended.
3. Humidity and light: beware of danger
A humidity level between 60% and 75% is ideal to prevent the corks from drying out. Additionally, light, especially natural light, can alter the wine's aromas. Choose a dark location or use UV-protected glass if you're displaying your bottles.
4. Patience as an ally
Some bottles benefit from aging, while others are best enjoyed in their youth. Research each wine's aging potential. A good wine merchant or a well-designed product sheet can guide you. In the meantime, the key word remains: stability.
In short: preserving a wine means respecting its rhythm. Temperature, humidity, darkness, and calm are the essential ingredients for preserving it. This way, each bottle will be enjoyed at its peak.
