Gaspard Brochet - The Magpie

Description

La Pie is a pure Chardonnay produced by Gaspard Brochet, from two small "climats" (vineyard plots) in Écueil: "Les Plantes" and "Les Prés Mousseux". Its magpie emblem, a curious and elegant bird, perfectly symbolizes this quest for nuances that Chardonnay represents on Écueil's black clays. These terroirs, little known to enthusiasts, have a very particular geological signature: soils composed of black clay with the presence of natural water sources, creating specific humidity and remarkable mineral richness.

Chardonnay, a grape variety often associated with the great Blanc de Blancs of the Côte des Blancs, reveals here a less common but equally seductive facet: that of earthy complexity, discreet richness, and the deep minerality conferred by the clay. Gravity-fed winemaking in small oak barrels, unfined, unsulfured, unfiltered, and without topping up, allows the wine to naturally develop its aromatic complexity without superfluous chemical intervention. It is in this absolute respect for the product that Gaspard Brochet's entire philosophy lies.

On the palate, La Pie captivates with its restrained elegance and beautiful persistence. The pale golden color with green reflections testifies to the wine's youth and its intact minerality. Aromas unfold around delicate floral notes, complex citrus notes, nuances of wet stone, and a beautiful chalky minerality. The Extra Brut allows the natural vivacity of Chardonnay to express itself fully, creating remarkable tension on the palate. This is a contemplative champagne, best enjoyed with patience, gradually revealing the hidden riches of the Écueil terroir.
