Gaspard Brochet - The Lion

Description

Le Lion is a pure Pinot Noir crafted by Gaspard Brochet of Domaine Les Croix, sourced from the premier cru Villers-aux-Noeuds, a small, often overlooked village that holds true terroir treasures. Its symbol, the lion, evokes the power and nobility of Pinot Noir in its most beautiful Champagne expression. This Champagne embodies the winemaker's philosophy: a return to fundamentals, a refined and natural winemaking approach that allows the terroir to express itself without artifice.

The soils of Villers-aux-Noeuds are shallow, silty, and chalky, terroirs that force the vine roots to dig deep for water and minerals. It is from this struggle, this perpetual quest, that the remarkable concentration and minerality of the Pinot Noirs from this commune are born. The gravity-fed winemaking in small oak barrels, unfined, undisgorged, unfiltered, and un-topped-up, demonstrates absolute confidence in the natural quality of the grapes and the fermentation process.

The result is a Champagne of great purity and remarkable tension. The deep color of the Pinot Noir takes on garnet hues in the light. On the palate, the Champagne asserts itself with a beautiful structure, complex aromas of ripe red fruits, earth, and minerality. The Extra Brut, almost minimalist in its dosage, allows the wine's natural vivacity to express itself fully. It is a contemplative Champagne, best enjoyed slowly, with patience, taking the time to commune with what the terroir so generously offers.
