Legrand-Latour - Le Campanien 2020
Prix non communiqué — nous contacterDescription
Le Campanien is a champagne with a fascinating geological concept, produced by SARL Legrand-Latour in Fleury-la-Rivière. Its name directly evokes the Campanian geological period, an age of the Late Cretaceous that shaped the famous chalks of Champagne 83 to 72 million years ago. This pure Meunier champagne, harvested in 2020, comes from the Oeuilly terroir, located in the Marne Valley, a Premier Cru that embodies all the richness of these soils formed of clay and silty chalk.
It is a champagne cultivated and aged according to the most natural philosophy: 24 months in barrels on lees, a tirage carried out with grape must in September 2022, and above all a Brut Nature with no added sugar and no added sulfur. This minimalist approach reflects a philosophical vision of winemaking: allowing the wine to evolve naturally, respecting its own rhythms and transformations. The back label beautifully illustrates this philosophy, showing the marine microorganisms and coccoliths that form the very basis of this legendary chalk.
On the palate, Le Campanien reveals all the contained power of the Meunier from this Oeuilly terroir. After several years of resting in the cellar, the champagne has developed a beautiful tertiary complexity with aromas of brioche, light hazelnut, and a distinct chalky minerality. The Brut Nature, without dosage, allows for a perfectly natural expression of the terroir and time. It is a meditation champagne, to be savored calmly, which benefits from being decanted for a few hours to fully reveal its depth and unique geological signature.
