Legrand-Latour - Lutetian 2021
Prix non communiqué — nous contacterDescription
Le Lutétien is a champagne that tells a fascinating geological story. Its name refers to the Lutetian geological stage, a period in the Middle Eocene dating back 45 million years, when a tropical sea stretched as far as Champagne. It is precisely this period that created the limestone sand deposits, so rich in shell fossils, found in the soils of Vandières, the terroir from which this champagne originates.
This 2021 Brut Nature is a harmonious blend of 55% Chardonnay and 45% Pinot Noir, harvested and aged according to Legrand-Latour's rigorously natural philosophy. Twelve months in barrel on lees, disgorged with grape must in September 2022, with no added sugar and no additional sulfur. The back label beautifully illustrates the paleontological richness of this terroir: marine fossils, shells, shark teeth, all silent witnesses to that distant era when Champagne was a warm, tropical sea.
On the palate, Le Lutétien reveals a beautiful harmony between the finesse of Chardonnay and the structure of Pinot Noir. The pale gold color with green reflections speaks of freshness and minerality. The aromas unfold around delicate white fruits, flowers, and a beautiful limestone minerality characteristic of this particular terroir. The Brut Nature allows a natural expression of the wine, without artifice, letting the vivacity of the champagne fully express itself. It is a wine for contemplation, which benefits from being opened a few hours to reveal all the historical and geological richness of this unique terroir.
